Invitation From The Organising Committee

Dear Colleagues

We are very excited in these trying times to have you join us in person at the 2022 Biological Psychiatry Congress. This year’s congress has the fitting theme of ‘Biological Psychiatry in a Post-COVID World’.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted us all in ways that we would have little imagined. It has also dramatically changed the mental health landscape and, as psychiatrists and professionals working in the mental health field, we have had no choice but to rise to the challenge. At this year’s congress our focus is not so much on COVID-19, but on how our research and practice has changed in the face of the pandemic and in response to the myriad of needs. Collective and rapid innovation has been required to tackle the unpredictable, uncertain, and changing face and associated sequelae of a ravaging disease. Although in some respect our lives have settled into a new ‘normal’, we are still facing volatility, inconvenience, and restrictions in our professional and personal lives.

Psychiatrists, other mental health practitioners, and researchers have responded to the pandemic in creative, inspiring, and humanistic ways to address the multiple psychological and social impacts. This is where we cast the spotlight this year. We are indeed honoured to provide a platform this September to exchange the very latest in science, innovation, and practice, of relevance to the brain, mind, behavior, and psychopathology in all of its presentations. The Organizing Committee especially welcomes participation from early-career psychiatrists, registrars, researchers, undergraduate and postgraduate students, and the neuroscience community at large. Likewise, we welcome participation and support from all our industry partners. A wonderful development this time around is that Biological Psychiatry will be joining forces with the African College of Neuropsychopharmacology who will host their own symposium on Tuesday the 15th of September.

In addition to the many beautiful natural and cultural attractions in Cape Town, the Century City precinct offers excellent accommodation and world-class shopping and dining facilities. We are intent on making your experience of the scientific and social program offerings at the 2022 Congress memorable. We promise rich content and opportunities for networking and social connection. We will ensure adherence to COVID safety practices and will have contingency plans in place for unforeseen disruptions.

We really look forward to seeing you in September!
